Snow’s BBQ in Lexington, Texas
Women do not get appreciated enough in this industry, if we may say so ourselves. We are glad that Tootsie Tomanetz of Snow’s BBQ has received the love that she deserves. Her food is considered among the best in Texas, which is incredibly high praise. She does maintenance work at the local high school five days every week, but she becomes a BBQ Superwoman on Saturday mornings. The queue starts to move at 8 AM. If you think that’s early, we’ll have you know that she starts to shovel coals at 2 AM.

Sweet Lew’s Barbecue in Charlotte, North Carolina
Lewis Donald got his start in the BBQ scene in a Charlotte neighborhood called Belmont. The city is not usually known for its BBQ fare in the same way that Lexington is. You will find Sweet Lew’s in an old service station that was once a working-class neighborhood. It is homey and unfussy, which is what all BBQ joints should aspire to be. It offers casual counter service and a menu of chopped pork sandwiches, spareribs, classic sides, and smoked chicken. There is also a rotating daily specials list to check out! The best thing about this place is that it has given the city something unique. More often than not, its rapid growth and new concepts have done longtime residents more harm than good.
