TAG Heuer stopped any advertising with him. Golf Digest suspended his monthly column. The companies that stuck by him were Electronic Arts and Nike. One study reported that he lost anywhere from $5 billion to $12 billion because of the scandal.

In February 2010, he announced that he had gone to a 45-day therapy program. He also made another apology about his behavior. “I thought I could get away with whatever I wanted to. I felt that I had worked hard my entire life and deserved to enjoy all the temptations around me. I felt I was entitled. Thanks to money and fame, I didn’t have to go far to find them. I was wrong. I was foolish.” A couple of weeks after this, he announced that he would make a comeback in the sport.
