President Ronald Reagan was assassinated on March 30, 1981, in an attempt carried out by John Hinckley Jr., who was killed in the process. The would-be assassin did not attempt to assassinate the president because he wanted to impress the young actress Jodie Foster, who happened to be in the room, contrary to common belief.
