Millard Fillmore – 149
After serving as the Whig Party’s last president before the party was destroyed in 1832, Millard Fillmore became the party’s first vice president. He was born into a working-class family, but he put in the effort to educate himself and advance to the position of vice president under the administration of President Zachary Taylor. Fillmore was elected as the thirteenth president of the United States of America in 1850, following the death of the incumbent president due to cholera. Upon Taylor’s death, all of the cabinet members of the White House promptly tendered their resignations, allowing Fillmore to start from the bottom up and build a whole new White House from scratch. However, while his IQ of 149 is on the lower end of the presidential range, it is by no means a laughing matter in this context. Throughout 1850 and 1853, he attempted, unsuccessfully, to alleviate tensions between the North and the South by signing the 1850 Compromise, which was ratified in 1853. His assistance in establishing touch with Japan, which was still in the process of isolating itself at the time, was also greatly appreciated. Japanese authorities began allowing American ships to dock in the country during his tenure as president in the case of a natural disaster or another emergency.
