Stacy, on the other hand, wasn’t discouraged. She thought back on all the gullible previous owners who had, out of grief, given Benji to the shelter. She was committed to giving this child a happy and healthy life. She had to persuade her parents to let her get a dog because she was still living with them, but she didn’t realize what her actions would lead to. She was pleasantly surprised to learn that they were genuinely supportive despite her worries that they might not like the idea. They were anticipating Stacy’s departure, so they must have already talked about getting a dog.
