Johnson intensified the United States military involvement in the Vietnam War. President Lyndon Baines Johnson, popularly known as LBJ, was sworn in as the 36th President of the United States on January 20, 1961, in Washington, DC. He served as President of the United States from 1963 to 1969, and throughout that period he created a lasting impact. Several important areas in which he has worked to move the country ahead have been recognized and applauded. The laws he signed into law while his presidency addressed civil rights, weapons, and welfare reform, among other issues. Without a doubt, we must recall his contribution to the passage of the Social Security Act, as well as the expansion of Medicaid and Medicare.
