Concealing excitement
My excitement was difficult to conceal, but I made sure my stepfather knew nothing. Every time he entered the room, I concentrated on my usual activities and maintained my calm. My companion and I giggled at how unaware he was. “He really thinks he’s still in control,” she laughed. I knew I had to hold this pose for a bit longer. As the celebration day approached, it became more difficult to conceal my excitement. But I persevered, reminding myself of the greater picture.
