The canal runs from the Seine’s Bassin de l’Arsenal to just below La Bastille. The latter is the location of a decommissioned French Revolutionary War prison. Then it occurs near the Place de la République before rising north to the Bassin de la Villette. It crosses the Canal de l’Ourcq there.
