The cryptic note
The homeowner saw a small handwritten note before he decided to use his spare key. According to the note, the reader was to “ring the doorbell”. Ravaux was confused and a little scared when he looked for the doorbell. Couldn’t they hear the knocking, he wondered, why the couple had written such a strange note? In the end, he decided to try his luck and ring the doorbell because knocking on the door wasn’t enough. But what he found instead of the doorbell surprised him.
The Critical Note
The doorbell has been destroyed
While it was unusual for tenants not to answer, it hadn’t been strange enough to scare the landlord. When he took a look at the doorbell, all that changed. The “cord” was deliberately pulled out of the socket, as if someone was trying to wire it. Ravaux didn’t know what to make of this because it was a big red flag. He tried to call the police, but opted to follow the written instructions. A shrill sound echoed in his ears as he pressed the destroyed doorbell.
