Beginnings
When Selleck turned 35, his efforts paid off, and he landed his breakout role as Thomas Magnum in Magnum, P.I. This was an opportunity for him to establish a name for himself. The show was set in the idyllic setting of Hawaii, but production did not go as planned. Indeed, filming was delayed by six months due to a writer’s strike! Without a salary from this dormant role, Selleck supported himself by working as a handyman. There are few people today who are that adaptable.
Magnum P.I.
Magnum, P.I. was a smashing crime drama that aired for an astounding eight seasons! That’s right, Tom Selleck wore Hawaiian shirts and a Detroit Tigers baseball cap in 163 episodes. It’s self-evident that the show’s biggest fans have the same clothing in their own closets. Additionally, that mustache! We cannot forget about that ’80s classic.
