Charles began to feel anxious as the wedding date approached. Sally Beddel Smith (royal biographer) said in her book about Prince Charles that Charles was still in love with his ex-girlfriend Camilla Parker-Bowers. His father pressured him to marry Diana and cease his relationship with her. The Prince, according to Smith, cried the night before Diana’s wedding. Charles renewed his affair with Camilla in front of the entire world when Prince William and Harry were born.

Designers were frantically scurrying not only because of Diana’s gown but also for another reason. Diana is a little taller than the average person, therefore she need heels that were a little shorter. The scenario was explained by Clive Shilton, a cobbler., “Her main concern was that she wouldn’t appear taller than Prince Charles, and because she was very tall — 5ft 10in — the shoes would have to have a low heel.” Each slipper was very beautiful and detailed. Each one-of-a-kind silk slipper was embellished with 542 sequins and 132 pearls, as well as a “C” and “D” painted on the shoes’ hidden arch and a love heart.
