Geena Davis Then
In the 1980s, Geena Davis was a hot commodity on the market. When Beetlejuice and then Thelma and Louise catapulted her to box-office success, it appeared as if she couldn’t possibly make a bad decision. If you went to the grocery in the 1990s, you couldn’t turn around without seeing Davis and her ex-husband, actor Jeffrey Goldblum, featured on the cover of a magazine. The Fly, their remake of the iconic horror film, is a resounding failure. With the exception of Renny Harlin’s flop Cutthroat Island, which was directed by her now-ex-husband, there were no major flaws in the overall picture. They made the film specifically to assist Geena in establishing her professional career. Because of the failure, she was on the verge of being ruined financially and socially.
