During that time, Carter’s spouse worked as a movie producer for Ron Samuels. Carter was 25 at the time of their wedding in 1977, but the couple would eventually divorce in 1982. As the actress recalled the marriage to Closer magazine in December 2019, “[Samuels] was a lot older [than me], and I was just stupid,” she added of the union many years later.
