In the case of Queen Elizabeth I, her doctor believed she needed to be wrapped in a red cloth to rid her body of the scarlet sores. The heat and discomfort will finally go away. The queen, on the other hand, was appalled by the prospect of being scarred and disfigured for the rest of her life.
