An incredible triumph is detailed here. It all began in Oklahoma, USA, back in 1957. Tulsa’s massive time capsule is located beneath the courthouse’s current floor. The event marked the 50th anniversary of the birth of the state. A gold and white 1957 Plymouth Belvedere was left inside as a memento. Hence, “Miss Belvedere” became its affectionate moniker. Miss Belvedere, it turns out, still had a lot to shock the residents of Tulsa with fifty years later.

The advertisement portrayed the car as a tremendous bonus. The object of the game was to accurately predict Tulsa’s population for 2007. So, in that year, the car would go to the person who came closest to guessing the correct answer. The microfilm containing the responses of the 812 people who answered the question was stored in the car’s glove box. Next, Miss Belvedere joined other Oklahoma mementos from 1957 in the time capsule. The capsule was constructed from concrete to ensure it would survive even a nuclear strike.

2007 had arrived in Oklahoma at long last. Tulsans everywhere were making final preparations for the big event. The fate of Miss Belvedere is unknown. Can we still consider her gorgeous?

The capsule was opened, and Miss Belvedere was removed. When the car finally emerged from its protective covering, onlookers couldn’t believe their eyes. They were completely unprepared.
What do you think happened? The transformation from Miss Belvedere to an elderly lady was complete. Both the interior and exterior of the vehicle had been thoroughly eroded. People’s joy quickly turned to despair. Still, there was more!

The citizens of Tulsa City were eager to learn who had won despite their sadness. Adults present in 1957 were more enthusiastic than children because they saw the capsule being buried and then dug up. Raymond Humbertson came out on top. In 2007, he predicted that there would be about 384,743 residents in Tulsa. Raymond passed away in 1979, which was a great loss. His centenarian sister was the natural recipient of the award.

Tulsans, once again, couldn’t wait to find out what would happen next. Could Miss Belvedere be brought back to her 1957 condition? Or would they be forced to abandon her?
Ultra One was tasked with fixing the vehicle. This business was tasked with servicing Miss Belvedere and removing any rust she may have encountered. A generous benefactor provided the necessary funding in the form of about €17,940.

Miss Belvedere’s rust had been removed, but it appeared that the car could not be saved. By that time, it had already caused total devastation. The state decided not to display Miss Belevedere because it was hopeless. There was then a dilemma over what to do with the vehicle. They can’t just throw away such a historic vehicle. It was similar to a keepsake from Tulsa. Then, Ultra One’s owner, Dwight Foster, made the ultimate call.

There was not the slightest trace of Miss Belvedere’s 1957 appearance.”It’s basically papier-mache,” Dwight Foster of Ultra One in New Jersey said. “We did not know how bad it was until the car arrived here.” The announcement devastated people’s hopes. Sadly, by the time Miss Belvedere was able to get help, it was already too late. Dwight Foster knew that attempting to repair the car would end in disaster, so he and his crew abandoned their plans. “Everything we wanted to do on the car could not be finished because it was too fragile,” he said.

A Silver Lining
You know the old adage: “Every cloud has a silver lining.” Robert Carney, the nephew of Catherine Humbertson, was the one who delivered the good news to the people of Tulsa. The group had settled on the Historic Auto Attractions Museum in Roscoe, Illinois as the recipient of Miss Belvedere’s donation. It would remain in the exhibition indefinitely.
Simultaneously, Foster lobbied Tulsa officials for donations of memorabilia and photographs honoring Miss Belvedere’s legacy. Miss Belvedere was ultimately relocated to Illinois that same year (2017).
