The Sheep Still Would Not Calm Down
The three rangers worked slowly, spreading out and guiding the frightened herd toward the nearby wooden barn. It took nearly twenty minutes of careful movement, but they eventually got the sheep inside and secured the heavy wooden gate. Mark hoped the shelter would help them settle.

But even inside the barn, the animals stayed packed tightly together. They stamped their hooves, breathed heavily, and refused to relax. Mark leaned against the gate and turned to Davis, who had worked in the park for more than fifteen years. He asked if he had ever seen anything like it. Davis shook his head. If a bear had scared them, he said, they would have scattered across the ridge long ago. This was different. It was as if the sheep had no idea where the danger was coming from.
