As she gently climbed down the steps, her heart was beating in her chest. She shoved the hatch shut again as soon as she stood on the ground, but this time she was a little too quick. Lily froze as she heard a loud thumb. She listened intently when the television abruptly paused.

Lily’s heart sank as she listened. “Did you hear that?” Margaret enquired of her spouse. “Huh? No, I didn’t hear anything,” Thom replied, and the television was switched back on. Lily snuck across the corridor to the steps leading to the front door, thinking to herself, “That was a close call.”
