Old Friends and New Faces
Reconnecting with old friends was both comforting and bittersweet. Many of their peers had aged, retired, and moved into different phases of their lives. Some had passed away, while others had drifted apart. Ed and Mabel’s decade-long absence had created a gap that couldn’t easily be filled. Still, they made efforts to rebuild relationships, attending small gatherings and reminiscing about the old days. Yet, they knew they had changed in ways their friends couldn’t fully understand.
The Call of the Ocean
Despite their best efforts to adjust to life on land, Ed and Mabel couldn’t shake the pull of the ocean. They found themselves visiting marinas and walking along the shore, watching cruise ships come and go. The salty air and the distant horizon called to them, reminding them of the freedom they once had. They began to consider whether they could live part of the year on a ship or take frequent voyages to satisfy their wanderlust.
