Vanessa Redgrave once dubbed the “greatest actress of our time,” was born in Blackheath, London, in 1937. Redgrave is not only a busy performer, but she is also an important activist who has publicly backed organizations such as the Workers Revolutionary Party, the Palestine Liberation Organization, and UNICEF. Redgrave has received multiple awards for her performance as the lead in Call the Midwife, whose tenth season began earlier this year. She’s also noted for her politically charged performances in The Palestinian, Playing for Time, and her directorial debut, Sea Sorrow.

Brenda Blethyn – 75, Ramsgate

Brenda Blethyn arrived late in life. She was an administrative professional before deciding to pursue acting in her late twenties. But that timely decision proved to be more than wise: Blethyn is now considered one of Britain’s most successful showbiz ladies, having appeared in over 80 productions. Blethyn made her feature film début in 1990, but she hasn’t stopped since. The Ramsgate, Kent, resident made it to Secrets & Lies, Pride & Prejudice, and Saving Grace. She has recently appeared in the crime series Kate & Koji and Vera, in which she plays a humorous investigator.
