Florida – Moonlight (2016)
Even while Florida receives a lot of criticism, it does have some positive aspects. This was, after all, the setting of Moonlight. For good cause, this magnificent coming-of-age film won the Academy Award for Best Picture. Everything about it was fantastic. Wasn’t it fascinating to watch how the film dealt with subjects like self-discovery and childhood abuse?

Georgia – The Color Purple (1985)
Whoopi Goldberg and Oprah Winfrey made their names in 1985 by starring in this moving film. It illustrates the challenges of an African-American woman in the early twentieth century in the South. This is a difficult film to see because it deals with serious issues including abuse, misogyny, and racism. It was based on Alice Walker’s 1982 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name.
